As the voice for the environment in the United Nations system, UNEP is the global Environmental Reference Centre (ERC) of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat. In this role, UNEP helps ensure adequate attention to environmental concerns in the strategic planning and activities of the Mountain Partnership. UNEP contributions to the Mountain Partnership include climate change response, (advice on mitigation and adaptation), good governance and integrated approaches for the protection of fragile mountain ecosystems and their contribution to sustainable development, tools for pollution prevention and waste management; resource efficiency, sustainable production and consumption, management of natural and man-made disaster risks.
